With 150 your assuming that 80-90 people that Q'd from the USA is going, and 30-40 from EU? Along with the 32 that Q from day 1 of GenCon. That seems like alot, esp. with the EU flights being so high.

Well that weas my point. 150 seems really low as number of player in general but when I added it up like you just did the numbers didn't even reach 150.
I counted 80? max from NACC 20 from EU (top16 travel vouncher doesn't even cover the flight nor has it been issued yet) 16 fro US RCs then 16 from grinders ( is it 32 I thought it was top8x2 but I don't really know)
Its fair to say we are struggling to get 150 which is rather awkward next to past years.

Oh sorry I thought there was more than 2 grinder events. I assume they will have 3-4 of them, although 4 would be pushing it. Then again we are only pulling these numbers assuming people won't just come just for fun.

90 NACC (Why would you pay to go to Vegas and then not go to Gencon?)
10 RC (Some people double Q'ed at RC and NACC)
20 EUCC (Probably high, but I had no clue how many might already come to Gencon)
24 Grinders (3 flight of Top 8 is what I keep hearing)
Yes, 150 could be a challenge.

That's a big part of why I was saying that they should open it up to the extra (max) 48 people who got 3rd-8th at a RC.

Way cheaper for some people to go to Vegas. Especially if you're local or can drive rather than fly (socal for example).

Flights to Vegas is pretty cheap, along with hotels. Hotels were from like $40 to $120. Obv you can get ones that are like $200+ but wouldn't make much sense for us b/c we won't be in our rooms most of the time anyways. Hotels don't run that cheap in Indy due to the lack of like 20+ Hotels on one strip.

Didn't he win his realm champs?
I was told this via Brad and apparenlty these stories grow out of control.
Pretty sure he also Q'ed via the Welcome Back event. I think he actually got 2nd at his Realm Champs (via split in the final).
Matt and Jeff Blyden split the top two, then Jeff beat Matt in the final game for the trophy. So Matt took second at mulgore RC.

It's Vegas? I would have probably flown to NACC if we would have been allowed to play in both Continentals just because I want to go there.
There might be something good with small worlds, almost everyone gets to draft.

I would think it would make the trip a lot more appealing to europeans. If you knew that Worlds was going to be <200 people instead of 400 people then your odds of making money go up. I know i didn't go to Worlds in France because trying to day 2 out of what might be 500 people is kind of a crapshoot.

Re: Qualification For Worlds
90 from NACC...I doubt it...I qualified but there is no way short of me DRIVING ALL THE WAY THERE! That I am going. Vegas was cheap! We drove and got a cheap hotel(120$ for hotel for all 3 days! And we drove from near San Francisco so it was very cheap) Now if under 100 people are going to worlds...it might actually mean it might be worth trying to compete.
Cheers!(Flying to GenCon is insanely expensive)

Re: Qualification For Worlds
Going to NACC was way more expensive for me than to go to Gencon if you include flight only, about the same if you count hotels, but I can't get the days off from work to go. I did qualify through NACC though for worlds, but right now it's not looking so good.

All -
I think Ben has made this point already but we at CZE are not happy with the travel situation for World this year. In the 12 weeks that we've been in business we've accomplished a tremendous amount but there were some things that we just had to accept and move forward. I know that without all the background and inside information it's hard to fully understand. Honor will be back next year but we have to start from scratch. It was not possible to use it this year. Some of your suggestions that were possible to implement are reflected in the player packet that should post within the next day or so.
There will be major changes in the second half of 2010 and into 2011. A new hobby level tournament program, a revamped Battlegrounds program, more DMFs around the world, a brand new high level event (second only to Worlds), a revamped Realms program, and more. We are putting the finishing touches and approvals on everything now and details will be announced at Gen Con.
Best,
Scott

Re: Qualification For Worlds
Thanks for the info Scott, it's greatly appreciated. I am quite sure things have been rather crazy there, given how much you've had to do and how short a time you've had to do it in.
I was wondering, though, if you (or someone, anyway,
) could explain why you guys decided to not open up worlds invites to 3rd-8th finishers at the RCs, especially given how sparsely this Worlds is looking to be attended? I mean, it's not a ton more people, but there are some of us at least that might go if we already have an invite, but won't make the necessary sacrifices to manage to attend if all we're guaranteed is a spot in a grinder. I am quite sure that there's behind-the-scenes details about many of the decisions regarding worlds that we're just not privy to, but I can't for the life of me figure out a good explanation for this particular decision.
Thanks much in any case, and I'll definitely be looking forward to the upcoming announcements, whether I'm there at worlds or not.
